Which are the Best Places for Day Trips from Bharatpur?
Within 55 km, you’ve got a Mughal ghost city, a palace of 2,000 fountains, and the Taj Mahal itself. Your friends will thank you.
01. Deeg Palace- Palace of 2,000 Fountains
Deeg is Bharatpur’s biggest secret. Built as a summer retreat by the Jat rulers in the 18th century, this palace complex is a remarkable blend of Rajput and Mughal aesthetics- sandstone and marble interwoven with symmetrical gardens, water tanks, and a jaw-dropping network of 2,000 fountains.
02. Fatehpur Sikri
Just 15 km from Bharatpur on the Agra road, Fatehpur Sikri is Emperor Akbar’s magnificent ghost city- a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the Mughal capital for only 14 years before being mysteriously abandoned.
03. Agra & the Taj Mahal
If your friends haven’t seen the Taj Mahal, it would be criminal not to add it given Agra is just an hour away. Stay in Bharatpur (far more peaceful and affordable than Agra) and do a day trip to Agra for the Taj Mahal at sunrise, the mighty Agra Fort, and Mehtab Bagh across the river for sunset views.
04. Mathura & Vrindavan
For the spiritually inclined in your friend group- or really anyone who wants to experience the full emotional spectrum of north India- Mathura and Vrindavan tour is unmissable. Mathura, birthplace of Lord Krishna, and Vrindavan, where he spent his childhood, form the heart of the Braj region.
